Chapter 2
New Faces, New Battles
Ok, I think to myself. It's a new day. The first day. The
last day. A sad yet happy day. Today was the day we formed the new team. Sure,
there was the Hero’s Heart Core. And yeah, they are awesome. But today we were
creating our own team. Hero’s Core. We wanted to be a little different because
we aren’t the exact same team as the older heroes. We were younger and had
different ways of dealing with things. My friends Clockwire and Knight were
already there waiting for us to join them. I had decided that I would meet
Apollo at the museum we met and we would go from there together.
“ Well it’s about time you two showed up!” Clockwire said.
Just as the words had finished leaving her mouth a gust of wind came up beside
me. Scar, I thought.
And of course I was right. Scar didn’t like using his super
speed as much but did when necessary.
“ Am I late?” he asked us in his rushed voice. He was only
14 not as mature as the rest of us. And
yet still he managed to make all of us look like idiots.
“ Nah, just your capes slightly on fire,” Knight said to him
with a low chuckle. As I saw he small
flame I sent a little blast of soft snow to put out the fire. I could hear the
final sizzle of the flames and water. I
heard Clockwire laugh at this and go over to give him a sisterly hug. Cute, I thought to myself.
“ Come on, lets go inside now that everyone’s here,” I said
to the new team. They all brought a bright smile to their face – a smirk really
for Scar – and we all walked into the Hero’s Heart Core together. It was there
base. A big building inn the middle of the city where you could look through
the windows. If you thought about it. It was pretty smart. Villains often
thought that it was their main place and would try to draw them out from here
by attacking here. Only they were wrong. This was just the front door to storage
warehouse.
The real Core’s base was in the middle of the ocean. At
times it would gently float over the water or be underneath right at the bottom
of the ocean. It was quite amazing if you thought about it. I’d never been
there but I had heard some amazing things from Frost who had been there a few
times. Apparently you can see all the sea life through the big glass windows.
“Raven? You ready for this?” Clockwire asked me. I had been
voted leader of the day because Frost came up with the idea and I was her
apprentice. But it was only for today. I
don’t like leading, I like to stay behind the scenes like a shadow. But
originally I had wanted to lead, really badly. But I realised after a few
minutes that I don’t think things through properly to be able to lead. But for
today, we needed someone level headed.
“Yeah, let’s do this!” I said back forcing the smile onto my
face. Honestly, I had a knot in my stomach the size of a basketball. Not a good
feeling.
“You ok?” Scar whispered in my ear. For a little thirteen
year old he sure was quiet. And very
observant.
“Yeah, just nerves I guess,” I whispered back bending down
to reach his ear. It was funny really. We had been friends for years. I was the
only person – other than his mentor – who knew his real identity. A rare
privilege. In fact it was by accident at first. He would be dropping hints here
and there to let me know who he was. It took me a while but about a year ago I
worked it out.
Anyway, we were walking into the tall and very big – like an
arena – sized building. The people of the city called this place the Heart
Hall. Some others called it double H. Either way I thought it was cheesy. But
hey, if it keeps the villains from knowing where we really were, well I
couldn’t complain.
As we walked in people would be staring at us. Somehow the
media had gotten word that we would be coming to ‘ Join ‘ the Hero’s Heart Core
today. Or so to say. I could see the WGI News presenter Kelly Commer, reporting
about this off to the side. I noticed that knight smirked to himself as if to
laugh. Yes, this is rather funny I
suppose, I thought to myself also giving off a little smirk. Apollo went to
hold my shoulder as a encouragement because we were now standing inside the
Hall in front of the leaders of the HHC. This was Creature and Omega as well as
Phoenix and Starshield. Frost fire was standing a little to the side.
“ Hello young heroes. Welcome to the Heart Hall. You have
unlimited access to most of the facilities in the hall. We will also discuss
the next few things in private away fro prying eyes” Frostfire stated to us as
giving us a hug each. She started to
turn when Lumos came running up to us all. He looked slightly frantic.
“ yes, finally, found you all. Sorry I’ late. I was trying
to make sure that everything was ready for you,” Lumos said coming to give
myself and Apollo a hug as welcome. He then went to whisper something in
Omega’s ear. He gave a slight smile then turned to us. I’m pretty sure I was
the only one that noticed though because it was gone as fast as it came, which
is to say it was as if it was never even there.
“ Well young hero’s, it’s time we show you around,” He
smiled a little which was very unusual for him. He then turned and started walking down the
hall towards the big bronze doors. Just as he started to open them something
rolled in from outside and started to tick really fast.
“ Get down!” I yelled just as it went off sending a large
blast through the entrance. I heard quite a few moans of pain before I saw a
figure start to come forward from the smoke.
“ I am in front of me but you can’t see me, what am I?” said
a high male voice. He was wearing a dark purple and blue suit with a whole lot
of question marks over it. Riddler, I
thought. When I voiced what I said he laughed.
“ Now now, that’s not the answer, I am Always in front of
you but you can’t catch me, what am I?” he laughed at me again as I stood up
and winced at the pain that went through my body.
“ I am the future,” I heard from my left, Clockwire had
spoken. The Riddler gave off a short laugh. He was distracted for long enough
that I could shoot him with one of my arrows.
When he saw it coming it was too late. He got pinned straight in the
chest. Wires came out from the side of the arrows and attached themselves to him
in the fastest time there was and then shocked him with a bolt of electricity.
“ Ouchy, Raven dear, you have to know by now you would have
to do much better than that to take me down,” he scolded me. A villain was
scolding me! That was just not done. I dropped my bow and summoned fire and
ice. One in each of my hands and ran at him shooting alternating elements. I
managed to get him square in the chest with a block of ice, knocking him down
to the ground. I took the chance to look around quickly noticing that everyone
else was still trying to recover from the blast. I turned back around and
pounced on the Riddler ready to break his jaw when he flipped me over and put a
knife to my neck.
“Now now, Miss Raven, Wouldn’t want to move would we? Looks
like you will be leaving the team before you can even join,” He laughed as he
pressed the knife down to my throat a little harder.
“No one can help you, Miss Raven. Your not going to be able
to get out of this one alive,” The Riddler laughed again. This is it, I’m going to freaking die and I haven’t even made the Heart
Core yet, I thought to myself.
Just then the Riddler’s knife got deeper to my neck. I could
feel a little blood dripping down my neck slowly. This is the end.
Oh my Freaking God! Is she going to live?! it's like the second chapter you can't kill her off yet!
