Hooded Island
Once upon a time in a little village far from the edge of America, off the coast, on a little island, there was a girl named Courtney. She had lived on this island since she was two. Her grandmother had died leaving Courtney and her mother all her land – which had been on the island - and possessions.
Her grandma also had left her a map and a blue hood. So far Courtney had no clue where the map started, but she had an idea of where it ended. Somewhere in the forest. She wanted to know what was important that had been left there.
So the next day Courtney asked her mum if she could go and find it.
“ Mum, can I go out to the forest? I think that's where grandma’s map leads into to,”
“ Ok, but sweetie be careful. I’ve heard bad things about that forest. Take the army knife with you just in case, ok?” Her mother replied voice filled with concern.
“ sure mum. See you later then,” Courtney said whilst picking up the knife from the bench and putting it in her back pocket. Courtney waved her last goodbye and walked out the door and down the lane.

Once Courtney reached the edge of the forest she felt like something was watching her. Quickly she looked around hand hovering over the knife in her pocket ready to fight.  But she saw nothing, so with a final breathe she entered the forest.
Darkness closed around her giving her a shaky feeling.
“ is someone there? Come out!” Courtney cried out. She turned in a circle, tears now stinging her eyes. She was known for her bravery but right now she had never felt so scared.

A bot jumped down from the tops of the trees a knife in his right hand. He ran forward to grab Courtney. But she was too quick. She drew her knife as she sidestepped the attack. Now back in her comfort zone and calmed down Courtney confronted the attacker.
“ What do you want?” holding the knife out to the front of her ready to strike if needed.
“ what I want is that map. Hand it over or else,” his voice was deep and dry. His eyes told her he was serious and willing to kill. That meant she had no choice.
Even if she could escape he would easily catch her.
He lunged at her his knife drawn back and point about to stab her in the gut. She had no choice. Courtney had to think and act fast.
“ I will get you Courtney,” he yelled it out. She now realised who it was. Her old friend Greg. He had gone missing many years ago as he had said to have gone crazy. He lunged once more.
Straight into Courtney’s knife. Greg died and Courtney survived. Life went back to normal, as though nothing ever happened.
It was over.

Hope you enjoyed that one. And now your second short story for the evening!

Set to Drop
It's a Tuesday morning and of course, when I wake up I hit my head on the bedside table. And then the overhead shelf. Again. It takes me a moment to adjust to where I am. Camp Frostline. Private rooms in the cabins so I don’t have anyone snoring in my ear. Although I’ve only been here for a few days, it still doesn’t really feel real. I arrived on Thursday last week. But it seems as though I’ve only been here for a day.
Don’t get me wrong, this camp is beautiful. The only problem is the camp’s reputation for being a place for troublesome teens. It’s not of course, otherwise, I wouldn’t be here. It's a camp for kids who are, special. Yes, special is the best way to describe us.  We’re not stupid if that's what your thinking. We can do things other people would otherwise not be able to do. Like breathe underwater or turn someone into a bird. Or themselves into birds. The best way to describe us is supernatural.
Anyway, I got up and got ready for breakfast. It was always different breakfast choices. A buffet would be the best way to describe it.  We eat in the pavilion and do most of activities around the camp. I watched some of the other campers playing basketball and cleaning the stables- yeah, we had horses here. I never said it was a poor camp just that it was different kids.
I entered the pavilion looking for an empty table for me to eat at. I still hadn’t found anyone to be friends with. Mainly because I have always been alone. I spotted a table in the middle of the room. Oh well, if it meant I could be alone it was better than nothing I thought.
Laid out on the table were fruits pancakes and waffles. This as well as the basic assorted cereals and milk.
I grabbed some of the fruit- strawberries, blueberries and an apple- and a couple of the waffles and started eating. It was about then that three of the other campers came and sat with me. Two boys and a girl. I’d seen them together before. Great, I thought.
“ Hey, your Della right?” this was the girl. Her hair was bouncy and shining in the light coming through the windows. She had one of those faces that seemed to be perfect far off and even better closer up. Bright blue eyes with perfect teeth and a bright smile. Dark chocolate brown hair though.
“ Yep, that's me,” I said trying to keep my head down trying to give them the hint that I liked being alone. Well, I guess liked is a bit strong. I was used to it.
“ Cool. I’m Kaley, and this Austin and Lucas. We’d be happy to show you around properly. We know the first tour you get is pretty short and doesn’t show much of what’s useful,” She pointed to each of the boys. Austin was on her left. He had hazel-greyish eyes and blonde slightly wavy hair.  He had one of those ‘ I’m tough but don’t look it ‘ bodies. His smile made me think of one of those school boys who would take your books and hide your stuff. But he seemed nice enough. Lucas however, was the exact opposite. His arms were buff, he had dark brown, almost black hair that was cut short and his eyes were a piercing green colour. I couldn’t stop looking at them. But I did.  The look he had on his face told me he was curious about me but wasn’t sure why. I know this feeling well.
“ nice to meet you. And yes it would be great if you could help me out by showing me around,” I was being honest but, somehow my gut didn’t believe I was.
“ cool, well as soon as we finish in here I’m sure we can take the day off to help you out,” Lucas said still looking at me. His eyes were searching for something. Weakness? I didn’t know.
“ ok then,” I replied to them all  looking at Lucas in the eyes. I almost slipped back into the trance he had put me in last time. Somehow though, it felt familiar to me. Almost as though I had seen them before. But that was silly.
We all ate breakfast together with Austin cracking jokes and us all laughing. Kaley had moved round to sit with me. Within half an hour we were all ready to go on the tour.
“ Hey kay, do you think we should take Della here to the special place?” Austin’s face had a slight glint of hope as well as sarcasm.
“Yeah we can take her but that means we need to go back to our cabins to get into our bathers though,” Kaley looked at me wanting to know if I was going to come with. I had never been asked to go somewhere special before like this.
“ sure. My cabins over that way though so can you meet me over there when your dressed?” I asked with a smile
“ Yeah, mines over there too, so I’ll come with you,” Lucas added on. I noticed that something in his eyes had sparked. Interesting.
AS we walked we said nothing. It was so awkward. So I started to talk but he cut me off.
“ I know you from before this camp,” well I wasn’t expecting that.
“ um, I don’t know how,” I now wanted to run into my cabin lock the door and never come out.
“ I lived next door to you for four years, before I moved and started to live with my grandmother,” he was telling the truth. I remembered now. We were both 5. He left just after his ninth birthday.
“ Wow, I had forgotten it was so long ago, well its good to see you again,” and I meant it. We were good friends back then. He had been the first friend I had ever had.
“ I guess this was like fate, you know destiny. If you believe in all that,” I didn’t but it was fun talking like that. We had stopped outside my cabin.
“ I should get changed,” I said as I opened the door. He nodded and kept walking down a little way. I entered the cabin and went to get into my bathers. I slipped my dress over the top and grabbed my beach towel.
Soon as I stepped outside I was facing Austin with his smirk still on his face.
“ Good timing ,” He said. I shook my head as I headed down the stairs to walk with him to Lucas’s cabin where Kaley had gone ahead to.
As we walked I noticed that he was always fiddling with something in his hands. When I asked what it was he explained that he had ADHD and was usually unaware of doing it.
“ What took you two so long? Went for takeout did you?” Kaley’s voice rang clear from up ahead.
“ Nah,” I replied as we walked up to them. Lucas was now wearing a pair of boardies and a singlet.
“ Come on lets go take her to the waterfall,” Lucas had caught me looking at him again and gave me a wink. He used to do this all the time when we were younger. So, in return I just shook my head and smiled.
Kaley started to run off into the edge of the forest at that moment. She was followed by Austin and Lucas who had grabbed my hand and was pulling me along. We had been running flat out for about three minutes when we stopped. It took me a while to take in all the beauty of the place. A glistening waterfall with a pool of crystal blue water beneath that looked deeper the closer you got to the edge near the waterfall. You could still see the bottom though because the water was that clear.
Everyone started to get ready to hop in when suddenly Austin and Lucas disappeared.
“ Kaley, where did the boys go?” it was then that they jump out from behind and grabbed me about to throw me in. I struggled against them whilst laughing with them.
“3,2,1!” SPLASH! The water was a lot warmer then what I had expected. I started to relax when all of a sudden the three of them jumped into the water and started splashing me.
We spent a couple of hour splashing around and having chicken fights. It was just after this that we hopped out and started playing a dare game. The rules were you had to do the dare or have to were the hat of shame all week. So of course we all did our dares. Well, only until it came round to my third turn.
“ Della Kart, I dare you to jump from the waterfall into the pool below,” Austin’s smile grew larger as he said it.
“Its safe we do it all the time. We could jump with you if you want?” Kaley supplied obviously seeing the nerves in my eyes. I didn’t want to seem scared but I had a fear of heights and I hated jumping from diving boards let alone waterfalls.
“Ok, But you three have to jump before I go,” I took a deep breath and started to get up. Lucas got up and grabbed my hand.
“ Sound fair” he said. Kaley and Austin nodded in agreement and showed me the path up to the top of the waterfall. It was a short path but it was a very tall waterfall.
“ Okay, just watch and wait for us to get to the other edge before you jump,” Austin said. He was showing a caring side that hadn’t been as obvious before.
“ok,” I watched as they jump in together. Kaley screaming with joy as she did. Fear started to creep into her throat.
“ Come on, Della, its fine, you’ll have fun,” Lucas called from below. I looked down and gave him a smile. I stepped back ready to jump.
3…2…1… Jump!
