Thus chapter is special because I'm dedicating it to one of my best friends, Cathy and her mum. I hope that it makes you smile and feel better. i give you my best wishes Cathy and hope everything will be perfect for you.

Chapter 7
Heartfelt Excuses
Raven
I woke in a cold sweat trying to hold back a scream. I had
the dream where I was back in the restaurant with my family. I only ever got
this dream on the full moon. I had forgotten tonight would be one of them and
hadn’t been prepared. Usually I had a special tablet that the doctors had given
me to make sure that the dreams would stay away. Most nights like tonight
though I would try to stay awake as long as possible so I wouldn’t have to take
the pain of it if the meds didn’t work.
I checked the time on my alarm clock, 6:45. Might as well get up, I thought to
myself. I had a nice warm shower and then got up to go to the kitchen to get
something to eat. I was surprised when I saw Cobey sitting there reading a
book.
“ morning Cee,” he brought his head up to look at me and
gave a short polite smile.
“ hey, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at
home?” I found it unusual especially
since his dad would be waiting for him to go on patrol with him last night.
“ Finished patrol an hour ago, came here ready for training.
Dad, had said White would be handling training today and wanted me to come
straight here because he knew I would forget if I didn’t,” made sense. I must
have forgotten to mention it yesterday before I dropped out to go kick ass.
“ Okay, do you want something to eat? I’m gonna make some
breakfast anyway,” just as I finished speaking Becca walked in carrying a large
dish filled with waffles and pancakes.
“ no need Cass, James made some for everyone for when they got
up. I asked last night if he could make something special for us all today,”
she went to the oven and set it on keep warm and placed the waffles and
pancakes inside. There was enough here to feed an army.
Just as she turned to say something else my phone went off.
I held up a hand to both of them as I answered the call.
“ Hello?” I didn’t know who it was. I realised then that I
had answered my Raven phone. Core members had the number in case of an
emergency. My other phone was the one I used everyday.
“ Raven, it’s Lumos. Have you seen Apollo? He didn’t go home
last night,” Lumos informed me. I could feel myself getting panicky and started
to mouth to Becca and Cobey that they needed to go look for him.
“ No, last I saw of him, we all saw of him was after we got
here and introduced ourselves to each other a little better. I’ll get the team
to look for him,” I said as calmly as I could. Cobey got up and mouthed that he
would go look around the place.
“ Try his bedroom I know that sometimes he will just drop
off,” Lumos told me he started to sound really concerned.
“ Sure I’ll see if he logged in and went to bed, I’m sure
he’s fine Lumos,” I replied to try and ease his mind.
“ Thanks. Call me with an update. If he is sleeping, you
might want to wake him up. He doesn’t like to sleep too much doesn’t sit well
with him. Makes him feel sick and tired. Well, I better let you find him then,”
Lumos said a final good bye and hung up. When I hung up the phone Becca was
standing there with this look on her face. I couldn’t place it because I had
never seen it on her before. Maybe it was a mix of concern and excited. It was
rather odd how she had never used it before.
“ Well, I better go check the security logs and sensors I’ll
find out if he’s here or not. What?” I turned a little as she chuckled at me.
“ Nothing just that you seemed really scared and now you
seem to be oddly relaxed about this. Reason why?” she smirked at the end. Now
she seemed proud. “ I spoke to Scar after you went to bed. I was still
training. I know Cee, and it’s not something that you can hide. Trust me,” her
voice went softer as if she had experience from a recent heartbreak or
something.
“ Something you haven’t told me about Bec? I mean that
sounded like a heartbreak if you ask me, trust me I know about those,” my voice
cracked near the end again. I really had to try harder to hide my emotions.
“I know Cee, and yeah, you know how I was dating that guy, Trevor?
Well, he dumped me. Said I was too distant and secretive. You know how it goes,
double life and all,” Becca brushed off being dumped. This was the second guy this month who had
dumped her. So far this year she has had over ten guys as her BF. A record when you think that it’s only July.
At this rate she’d be at twenty before Christmas.
“ You mean triple life if you count in the fact I have to
use a fake name at school. Brooke Bell remember?” we ended up laughing on the
ground for a few minutes before I remembered that I had to find Apollo.
“ Ok, I gotta go find Apollo, check the logs to see where he
is or went. You know the drill,” I got up and dusted off my clothes before
walking to the meeting-slash- base systems room. There was some pretty high
tech stuff in there. Half the guys in the HHC were billionaires after all. Not
to mention Becca and her ways of nagging her parents until they give her more
money. Anyway, pretty high tech and most
was either holographic or on glass panels.
“ Computer bring up the bases room logs, look for Apollo’s
log in code and notify location to me,” the computer made a few beeps and
buzzing sounds before Apollo’s code came up from being logged into his room
last and not leaving.
“ Thanks computer,” I felt the need to thank it. Don’t know
why it was just a computer but it had helped me out.
As I walked back through the cave I noticed that in the five
minutes I had been gone most of the team had arrived and was eating breakfast
in the lounge whilst watching the news.
“ You find him yet?” White called out to me as I walked past
them to the hall on the other side of the room. I nodded at her and continued
walking. I was hoping she had saved me a few waffles. She knew I loved James’
waffles. They were always so crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
They were perfect waffles. As I walked down the hall I thought about what I was
going to do if he wasn’t in there. Though that's not possible, him not being in
there.
“Apollo? Are you in there?” I called out and knocked on the
door slightly.
So I had found Apollo. And learnt that his name was Lachlan.
Lachlan, rolls off the tongue and has a
nice ring to it too, I thought. I was dragging him through the cave to the
kitchen to get some of those waffles and some juice. When we reached the
kitchen I realised I was still holding his hand. I dropped it as soon as we
stepped through the door and grabbed out some glasses for the juice. Becca was
still fighting with Cobey in the lounge over the TV remote. I
hope that's not going to become a thing, I thought to myself as I went to
the fridge.
AS I poured the two glasses I noticed that Lachlan gave a
small smile. I passed his glass to him and went over to get the waffles and
pancakes from the oven.
“ Thanks. Did you make those?” Lachlan asked me as he went
to grab some ice cream and whipped cream from the fridge. Just the way I like my waffles, whipped cream and ice cream, I
laughed inside my head. He probably had no idea that that was what I was going
to put on my waffles too.
“ Nah, Bec got her butler James to make them. The waffles
are the best! You have to try some. Thanks,” I said as he passed me the ice
cream as he put some whipped cream on top of his.
“ Did you sleep well?” He asked me as he started eating his
pancakes and waffles. His eyes lit up as he ate. He seemed to be enjoying the
meal.
“ It was okay, I guess. Full moon so the nightmares were
around. Only got a couple of hours of sleep before they hit. You?” I pointed my
fork at him just before he put another piece into his mouth.
“ Yeah, like a rock. Though I don’t sit well when I sleep
too much though I get tired really fast and all that,” he put the piece on his
fork into his mouth and started to eat again.
“ Yeah, I heard about that. Lumos told me this morning when
he called,” at that moment a light blush covered his cheeks and the speakers in
the base came to life.
“ Team, report to the meeting room. Immediately!” Omega’s
voice boomed through the base. Unfortunately this would probably mean we would
be having a mission.
“ We’d better go, don’t want to be late to our first
meeting. Will not sit well with Omega, trust me,” I get up and put my waffles
in the fridge for later. If we’re back
before the end of the day anyway. I
went to my room and quickly changed into my hero gear on and out of my
civvies. When I came out of my room I
noticed Lachlan standing against the door frame of the room across from me.
Scar’s room.
“ Ready?” he held out an arm. I laughed slightly but took it
and walked to the meeting room with him. As we entered the room Becca and Scar
turned their heads to look at me. The look on their faces scared me. It was a
mix of horror, shock and sadness all at once. I had never seen them this sad. A
part from the time David… died.
“ Good, you're here you need to see this Raven. Brace
yourself,” I didn’t like the way Omega told me to brace myself and then give me
a grim look. At that point a video started playing on the screen. I recognized
the voice immediately. I couldn’t stop myself, I fell to my knees and started
to shake.
Apollo
I saw her drop and start to tremble. I had gotten a clue
something was wrong when Scar was showing such a well, for lack of a better
word, emotional emotion. Becca and I ran
to her. I pulled her into my arms as she continued to stare at the screen.
“ A little girly told me she was a birdy. Where are you
Brooke? Or is it Cassie?” a boys voice
came through the speakers. A moment
later a smug man’s face came into the shot. He had a scar down the side of his
face. It looked to be from a jagged knife. Like the one Riddler uses.
“ Dead, he’s dead,” I heard Cassie mumbling into my arms
still shaking. Becca was mumbling it’s okay into her ear as she stroked her
hair. Comforting Raven at the moment was the only thing on my mind.
“ Please leave her alone! What did she do to you?!” Cassie’s
eyes widen and she just froze in shock.
“ Chelsea!” Cassie jumped from my arms and practically ran
into the screen. She was searching the screen for something. I was guessing the
girl whose name she had just yelled.
“ Absolutely nothing, I just like screwing up peoples heads
and well, who wouldn’t want to mess with someone’s head who almost got you
killed hmm? Cassie, Brooke, Raven, who ever you are I believe you know Chelsea,
your cousin. She’s not dead, not yet anyway. You have until midnight tomorrow
before I kill her. Come and find me and I might let you both go. Don’t even
think about bringing any back up. If I see or hear that you do I will kill
Chelsea over here on the spot. You have until midnight tomorrow, don’t waste
any time little birdy,” that's when the screen went blank. Chelsea’s scared and
bloodied face was the last thing we saw.
“ He’s DEAD!” from the way Scar and Becca looked at her I
could tell this was a tone of voice she doesn’t use often. To me Scar looked
slightly scared and concerned about this. He ran up to me and grabbed mine and
Becca’s arm , she hadn’t moved from where she was when she was stroking
Cassie’s hair, and pulled us down the hall while Knight was trying to keep
Raven in the meeting room.
Scar unlocked his room and dragged us inside. I had never
seen anything like it. In the corner of the room was about six computer
monitors, two holographic ones and a touch screen one, as well as a large
keyboard. His bed was pushed up against the opposite wall and an alcove with
two desks and a dresser. There were four bookshelves filled with books and then
there was some other things like weights and what looked like monkey bars on
his high ceiling. It was amazing how much he fitted into one small room. His
bathroom was basic though.
“ You need to calm her down. She’s in shock and she’s
scared. You need to help her. I got a plan about getting Chelsea back too,” he
was looking at me while Becca was sitting on the bed and going through the
contacts and messages on her phone. As if
this is the time to check you Facebook, I had to stop myself from had to
stop myself from exploding at her and making things worse than they needed to be.
“ Okay well then spit out the plan,” Becca said from the
corner coolly, not even bothering to bring her head up to look at us. That's
when I saw a droplet fall from her face. She was trying to distract herself
from crying. These guys must have been
friends with Chelsea and that guy, I thought.
“ We calm Cassie down, get her to think things through
properly. Then we follow her when she goes to find David. We keep in contact so
if she needs help she can call us, then we go in and put the guy in John Gordan penitentiary. And get Chelsea into a hospital
to make sure she’s okay. Who knows what happened to her over the past three
years,” Scar said as he pulled up the video on the computers. He was probably
trying to trace the signal so we could go and catch the guy.
“ How do we calm Cassie down? You guys have known her
longing than me,” I asked. I mean I hadn’t known her that long. Well not
compared them anyway.
“ You go and comfort her while we wait in here for the
computer to get a hold of the signal from the video. She trusts you, and don’t
tell her I said this but she really likes you. If any of us can keep her calm
and make her think a little clearer its you Apollo,” Becca turned to me. Her
eyes were starting to gain red veins. Probably because she was holding all the
tears back.
“ It’s Lachlan, sure but what if she doesn’t calm down? I
mean what happens if I can’t get her to think properly?” I was raising my voice
barely holding back all my aggravation from the situation.
“ Kiss her, plain and simple. She’d kiss you back,” Scar
said from the corner of the room turning away from the computer screens. He had
a grin on his face that told me he was up to no good.
“ Yeah, knowing the way she feels about you, she will kiss
you back,” Becca said standing up to walk over to me to open the door and push
me out. “ Don’t worry we’ll come and get you both when we finished tracking the
signal. Now go and get her Lachlan, calm her down, kiss her a bit, but don’t
take advantage of her. If you do I will break some of your bones!” and with
that I was being pushed out the door with it closing and hitting my butt. I
continued down the hall, the crying and screaming getting louder. I heard a
little bit of Cobey trying to get her to calm down but from what I could hear
it wasn’t working.
“ Let me go! I need to find her!” I ran into the room and
grabbed Cassie as she went to freeze Cobey’s feet to the floor.
“ Calm down Cee, I got you, calm down” I said in a soft
voice as she collapsed in my arms crying.
“ I’ll go,” Cobey left the room and closed the door behind
him. I started to drop myself and Cassie to the floor. I grabbed her in my arms
but she started to struggle again.
“ Please Lachlan let me go, she’s my cousin and he’s going
to kill her if I don’t go. PLEASE!” with that last word she pushed against my
arms harder than before and started to break free.
“ Please Cassie for me,” I took her face in my hands. Please don’t hate me for this, I thought.
She looked beautiful even with tears coming from bloodshot eyes. That was when
I kissed her. At first she seemed shocked but then she grabbed hold of my head
and kissed me back. She closed her eyes and I soon followed.
I don’t know how long we were like that but somehow we were
now laying down with her on top of me. I
felt her tongue brush against my lips. They
were more than right, and god! This is amazing, I don’t think I have ever felt
this way before, I thought as I pulled her closer to me. I could tell my
feelings were well past a simple crush. I was falling for Cassie.
“ Get a room, please!” I heard Scar call from the doorframe.
Cassie rolled off of me and looked embarrassed. “ Didn’t mean to ruin the mood
but we thought you might like to know we got a lock on where the video was sent
from,”
“ Um, yeah, sure let’s go and deal with that,” Cassie
sounded flustered. Who could blame her? That was the best kiss I had had in my
entire life!
“ Sure lets go,” As I got up I put my hand down told help
her up. She gave me a small smile to tell me she was grateful and took it. I
pulled her up into my arms and gave her a hug. She wrapped her arms around me
and placed her head on my chest.
“ We’ll meet you in the other room,” Becca was grabbing Scar
by the collar of his uniform and pulling him out of the room. I could tell by
the look on his face he wasn’t happy about that.
“ Thank you,” Cassie whispered tilting her head up slightly
to look me in the eyes.
“ For what?” I could stare into her eyes for hours and get
absolutely nowhere on trying to work out who she was.
“ For being here. And for the kiss, I really liked it,” she
said it quite sheepishly. It made me wonder just how she felt about me. I
leaned down and kissed the top of her head.
“I wanted to tell you that I like you, a lot. And that kiss
was amazing!” I saw her blush but she seemed happy about what I’d said.
“ I like you a lot too. Do you want to go out after we get
that barstard?” she continued to look at me but her blush had died down and she
smiling a soft, pleasant smile.
“ I’d like that. Come on, we’d better get in there before
the come in here again,” I still had my arms wrapped around her waist and
started to move us both out of the room. Our steps were in time. Cassie had
turned around and had slung her arms around my neck.
As we walked into the room Clockwire and Knight were there
waiting for us. At first Clockwire seemed confused at the way Raven and I were
together but then it seemed to have clicked in her mind.
“ Come on, we’ve got work to do,” Scars voice came out clear
across the room.
Long Chapter another six pages which i have yet to print out. Hope you enjoyed. And to all the people in the world who have or are fighting cancer of any type i hope this made you happy and smile!
